Compensation Range
$70,197.00 - $105,295.00 annually
General Purpose
Supports faculty and student research through the development and creation of extended reality (XR) experiences, apps, and projects to foster new knowledge and technology-rich experiential learning opportunities. Creates XR experiences (virtual reality programs and augmented reality apps) and software to assist faculty in research and teaching. Works closely with faculty and students to troubleshoot research challenges, provide training, and recommend XR solutions.
This is an on-site position with the potential for remote work 1-2 days per week, depending on teaching and event needs.
Responsibilities
Extended Reality Consultations
- Conducts XR consultations for faculty and students, including virtual and in-person drop-in hours and one-on-one meetings.
- Collaborates with research teams to determine scope, feasibility, technical requirements, phases, and timelines for various projects.
Extended Reality Project Management and Support
- Participates in project team meetings with faculty, staff, and students.
- Leads teams in building rapid prototypes of XR experiences (VR and AR) to deliver proofs of concept or minimally viable products for securing grant funding.
- Implements sustainable infrastructure, including documentation and versioning for ongoing XR projects.
- Ensures all developed programs are well-documented and align with industry standards for version control.
Studio X Space and Programming Support
- Develops and facilitates workshops and training sessions related to XR tools and platforms, including pre-college programs and course integrations.
- Provides opportunities for the campus community to explore XR projects, research, and emerging trends.
- Mentors student employees supporting Studio X programming and projects.
- Advises on XR technology purchases and refresh cycles.
Professional Development
- Remains current on emerging XR trends, platforms, and interdisciplinary use cases.
- Participates in professional networks and shares departmental work with the broader XR community.
Support for Emerging Strategic Priorities
- Conducts pilot projects to test new technologies in alignment with emerging strategic priorities.
- Participates in River Campus Libraries and University committees, meetings, and events.
Other Duties
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- 2 years of XR project development experience using Unity or Unreal (including independent projects, internships, job experience, or advanced coursework)
- Knowledge of at least one object-oriented scripting language (C# preferred; Java or C++ also accepted)
- Advanced knowledge of XR platforms (Unity, Unreal)
- Familiarity with ARCore or ARKit
- Experience developing for and deploying to XR hardware, particularly VR headsets
- Experience with version control software (Git)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team with a high degree of accountability
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred:
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools (Blender, Maya)
- Experience with 3D reality capture technologies (3D scanning, photogrammetry)
- Instructional skills, including workshop or teaching experience at the college level
- Aptitude and willingness to learn new and emerging technologies
