About
Reporting to the Head of Creative Studio, this position is responsible for ongoing technical support to faculty, staff and students using Extended Reality (XR) devices which include Virtual Reality (VR), and Augmented Reality (AR) devices. The position is located at the XR Community Lab in UM's main library, Otto G. Richter, and is part of the UM Libraries Creative Studio locations. The main area of focus for this position is overseeing XR equipment loans, demos and scheduling of demos in the XR Community Lab. This position will also provide support in the Creative Studio and One Button Studio as needed. This position is ideal for someone who is interested in working with people, educating people about technology, and growing their knowledge base in emerging technologies such as XR and the components that make it. This position pays from $19.81 - $20.33 depending on experience.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for providing support in the XR Community Lab (75%)
- Scheduling demos for campus patrons with the various XR technology available in the lab including HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, MetaQuest, and any future XR headsets acquired.
- Manage the equipment loans and cataloguing of new equipment.
- Collaborate with UMverse to support the University of Miami's XR initiatives.
- Manage the schedule for the XR Community Lab.
- Handle requests from patrons for XR software. This includes research, purchase, download, and testing the applications on the XR devices.
- Maintain XR hardware by performing updates, resetting circulating devices, charging devices, maintaining inventory, and sanitation of devices.
- Collaborate with Creative Studio staff to support Creative Studio outreach efforts.
- Consults with faculty and teaching assistants on appropriate use of XR technology for instruction.
- Collaborates with Academic Technologies on XR technology usage and instruction.
- Trains and assists University faculty, staff, and students using XR technology through phone, email, one-on-one training, or workshop instruction.
- Record accurate statistics of Creative Studio usage and printing requests.
- Responsible for providing support in the Creative Studio (15%)
- Assist in Creative Studio services as an alternate staff as required.
- Process and print orders for patrons on the large-format and 3D printers, and run first level maintenance and troubleshooting on lab printers.
- Process patron reservation and circulation of audiovisual equipment for check-in/out and run first level maintenance and troubleshooting on audiovisual equipment.
- Software and hardware support to patrons using the One Button Studio.
- Process digitization requests for patrons and provide high-quality digital files to patrons.
- Record accurate statistics of Creative Studio usage and printing requests.
- Handle printing fees, late charges and billing for the Creative Studio.
- Assists with training sessions and Creative Studio tours for University faculty, staff, and students on digital media related projects.
- Keep up to date on changes and upgrades in the software and equipment.
- Provide secondary support for Library Services (10%)
- Assist in printing and mounting pieces and posters for library exhibits.
- Assist library departments with Creative Studio services related projects.
- Provide back-up support and consultation for Creative Studio units established in branch libraries.
- Explore emerging technologies where appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical school, Associate degree, or working on degree
- Three years of experience (can be cumulative) in customer service, preferably in a technology related field. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered
- Software and hardware troubleshooting skills
- Experience training others in technology software and/or hardware
- Computer skills and proficiency in Windows, Mac OS & iOS operating systems, Microsoft Office products
- Ability to work in a changing, progressive environment
- Excellent customer service skills

- 3D modeling or animation
- Adobe Creative Cloud
