About
The University of Rochester seeks outstanding senior and mid-career candidates for an open-rank faculty position in areas related to augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR). This hire will be a key piece of a broader effort at the University of Rochester, with its world-class research in these component disciplines, to strengthen our position as an international leader in AR/VR.
Research Areas
Relevant areas of research include:
- Optics
- Materials science
- Acoustics
- Data science/AI
- Understanding of human perception and cognition
- Core AR/VR technology
- Basic research and novel applications of AR/VR
Position Details
- Primary appointment will be in either the School of Arts and Sciences or the Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences
- Additional appointments in related disciplines as appropriate
- Tenure upon initial appointment for qualified candidates
- Exceptional candidates who do not meet tenure requirements will also be considered
- 9-month salary:
- Associate Professor: $120,000 – $140,000
- Full Professor: $140,000 – $200,000
Requirements
- Ph.D. degree
- Outstanding record of research
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity in STEM preferred
Key Responsibilities
- Build on the University's tradition of excellence in collaborative research
- Lead new initiatives with broad relevance to AR/VR and related research areas
- Engage in basic science collaborations
- Contribute to technology development
- Participate in industry interactions
- Support applications in education, workforce, and medicine
