The Institute of Machine Learning in Biomedical Imaging (IML), led by Prof. Dr. Julia Schnabel, is at the forefront of using machine learning to tackle challenges in biomedical imaging. Our mission is to develop accessible solutions for clinicians, improving diagnostic and prognostic capabilities.

We are seeking a motivated Postdoc (f/m/x) to advance research in Virtual Reality (VR), aiming to transform biomedical imaging and clinical decision-making. The position is available starting 1st March 2025.

Your Tasks

As a Postdoc in VR, you will focus on:

  • Driving innovation in VR visualisation by developing immersive tools to explore complex biomedical imaging data.
  • Shaping the future of personalised medicine with patient-specific VR simulations for better treatment decisions.
  • Empowering clinicians with VR applications that integrate imaging data and machine learning predictions.
  • Creating user-friendly and accessible VR experiences for researchers and clinicians.
  • Sharing research through publications and international conferences.
  • Guiding and mentoring students and doctoral candidates.
  • Participating in teaching activities and seeking funding for research.

Your Profile

  • PhD in computer science, biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, medical physics, or a related field.
  • Proven track record of publications in top-tier journals.
  • Profound knowledge of VR technologies and their applications, preferably in biomedical imaging.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and C/C++ with experience in Unity, Unreal Engine, OpenVR, or other VR frameworks.
  • Collaborative, analytical, and creative problem-solving approach.
  • Thrives in interdisciplinary environments, working with clinicians, scientists, and engineers.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, fluent in English.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with machine learning methods and their integration into VR.
  • Experience in teaching or supervising students.
  • Initial experience in securing third-party funding.
