Engineering Manager, Teleport

Teleport is a new product from Varjo, the world-leader in enterprise virtual and mixed reality solutions, enabling anyone with an iPhone to 3D scan and share their spaces. Using machine learning, we create fully automated 3D environments through a robust cloud service.

Job Description

We are seeking a Product-Minded Engineering Manager with strong technical expertise, a passion for solving customer problems, and the ability to lead and inspire others. You will oversee the development of Teleport’s web, mobile, and PC applications, as well as the backend infrastructure that powers them.

In this role, you’ll own all customer-facing systems and lead a growing team of domain experts. You’ll contribute directly to the Teleport web app and AWS infrastructure, so proficiency in Python and AWS is essential. Collaboration is key—you’ll work closely with our Product Manager and Designer to translate ideas into exceptional products.

This role can be based in Helsinki or Munich or fully remote, as long as you are located within Finland or Germany.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Act as a hands-on technical leader, supporting the team and contributing directly to development at the appropriate level of abstraction.
• Contribute to the Teleport web application, focusing on backend architecture and AWS infrastructure.
• Oversee development across web, mobile, and PC applications, while collaborating with the Product Manager and Head of Engineering to define the long-term roadmap.
• Manage and grow a team of engineers (currently 3, with plans to scale to 6).
• Hire great candidates who fit within a product-driven organization.

Our Expectations

• 5+ years of experience in hands-on software engineering within product-driven organizations with a customer-first approach.
• 2+ years of experience managing small, agile teams.
• Proficiency in:
  • Python, HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Postgres, Docker, AWS
• Solid understanding of iOS, Android, and Unity principles.
• Experience operating services, including release processes, monitoring, and security.
• Proven ability to ship impactful software in a startup environment.
