AI Scientist

Mistral AI is a small, creative team with high scientific standards, focused on building compute-efficient, useful, and powerful AI models. With a strong research foundation and entrepreneurial mindset, the team is hiring experts in pre-training and fine-tuning large language models.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop novel methods and research ideas to improve model performance.
• Evaluate and enhance models across use cases (e.g., reasoning, code, retrieval-augmented generation, tool use, agents) and modalities (text, image, speech).
• Build tools to streamline data handling and model iteration.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams to deliver innovative AI applications.

You May Be a Good Fit If

• Proficient in Python and at least one other programming language (e.g., Rust, Go, Java).
• Hands-on experience with AI frameworks and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Jax).
• Strong engineering skills to design and deploy complex software systems in production.
• High scientific track record in a relevant field.
• Team player, self-starter, and autonomous worker.

Ideal Qualifications

• Expertise in Generative AI and transformer-based models.
• Strong publication record.
• Interest in fine-tuning and applying language models.
• Proficiency across the MLOps stack, particularly in architecture and model evaluation.
• Experience with audio/speech technologies (e.g., audio input/output, NLP).
